Wesley "Wes" Robert Slaughter

August 21, 1969 — September 9, 2024

Wesley “Wes” Robert Slaughter, age 55 of Big Reedy, unexpectedly departed this life on Monday, September 9, 2024. The Edmonson County native was born on August 21, 1969 to the late William Rayburn Slaughter and the late Julia Ann Luttrell. He was married to his loving, devoted wife of thirty-three years, Gloria Maxine Slaughter, who survives.

Wes was a 1988 graduate of Edmonson County High School. He loved living in Big Reedy, all the beauties of nature, relaxing by Big Reedy Creek, fishing, bike riding and wood working. He worked for Dunaway Timber for over fifteen years, and traveled many years across the eastern United States as a long haul truck driver.

Wes never met a stranger. He loved people for who they were and wasn’t judgmental. He loved to laugh and joke, and had a great appreciation for art and all genres of music. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and loved his family, children and grandchildren above all. He very proudly wore the title of “Pops”!

Besides his wife, Gloria, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Whitney Elizabeth Lewis (James) and William Riley Slaughter (Chloe), all of Bowling Green; his grandchildren that he adored, James River and Wrenn Elizabeth Lewis; siblings, Gina Renee Slaughter of Big Reedy and Ruston Shawn Slaughter (Sandy) of Louisville; step-mother, Janice Coghill Slaughter of Bowling Green; step-sister, Terry Cosby (Steve) of Bowling Green; mother-in-law, Earline Kirby (Mark) of Huntsville, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Kelly Travis Luttrell; father-in-law, Max Keith Hunt; maternal grandparents, Claudus Robert Woosley and Glida Elizabeth Woosley and paternal grandparents, William Russell Slaughter and Lucy Booker Elmore.

Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to: National Public Radio (NPR), 1111 North Capitol Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002.
