Wayne Thompson, age 75 of Pig, departed this life on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Barren County native was born on February 24, 1948 to the late Buford Woody Thompson and Louise Wright Whitaker. He was married to his devoted wife and best friend, Cheryl Lynn Thompson, until they were parted by her death on July 21, 2016.
Wayne served our nation in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era. He obtained his bachelor’s degree, and worked for many years as a farmer. Wayne currently served as a board member for the Edmonson County Farm Bureau, and was a former supervisor and chairman of the board for the Edmonson County Soil Conservation District. He was also a member of the Edmonson County Cattleman’s Association and Park City United Methodist Church.
He leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Michael Thompson (Sherrell) and Josh Thompson (Amber) all of Pig and his adoring grandchildren, MaKaylee Thompson, Connor and Gavin Thompson. Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Jess Whitaker.
Interment will be in Hawkins Cemetery with graveside military honors by the Nesbit Alexander Memorial Post VFW #6937. Memorial contributions may be made to: Hawkins Cemetery Fund, c/o Timmy Davis.
