Vivian “Granny” Smith, age 90 of Mammoth Cave, departed this life on Friday, December 27, 2024 at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The Normal, Illinois native was born on July 9, 1934 to the late Lucy and Clarence Victor Sylvester, Sr. She was married to the late Edgar Lewis Smith.
Vivian was of the Baptist faith. She dedicated a significant part of her life to her career at the Eureka Vacuum Company, where she worked diligently as an assembly line worker. Even after her retirement, she continued to be an inspiration to those around her, showcasing the importance of dedication and perseverance throughout her life. She delighted in thrift shopping, where she could uncover unique treasures and charming finds. Her passion for going to the auction not only filled her days with excitement but also allowed her to forge connections with fellow auction enthusiasts.
She leaves to honor her memory— her sons, Vernon Wilson (Karen) of Ellsworth, IL and Frank Wilson of Mammoth Cave; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings.
