Ruby Darlene Dennison Thurman, age 74 of Bowling Green, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. She was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Dennison, and brother Joe Dennison.
Darlene leaves behind her devoted husband of over 40 years, Alan Richard Thurman, and daughter, Melissa Thurman White (Dickie), grandsons, Morgan and Grant White and her beloved dog, Ollie.
Darlene graduated from Richardsville High School, and pursued further education in Nashville. She worked at the Country Peddler before co-founding the Clip-It Shopper in 1982 with her husband Rick. In her free time, Darlene was a skilled artisan who could create anything; ceramics, macrame and fabric arts. She used those skills to weave recycled plastic bottles into sleeping bags for the homeless.
She enjoyed RVing around the country with her husband, particularly while cheering on NASCAR legend, Dale Earnhardt. Darlene was politically active in the Democratic Women’s Association, and passionately advocated for the environment and endangered species.
In lieu of a memorial service, Darlene wished to be remembered through acts of kindness and creativity. Her final act of charity was donating her hair to Locks of Love. To honor Darlene’s memory, the family encourages others to vote, create something beautiful or useful, and give it away. Her kindness, creativity, and advocacy will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
