Rev. Mike Knight, a cherished servant of God, devoted veteran, and beloved community member, was surrounded by his loving family when the Lord called him home on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green. The Jefferson County native was born on February 11, 1948, to the late Wilma Wells and Leonard Madison Knight. He was married to his devoted wife and help mate, Rita Knight, who survives.
Ordained to preach the word of God in 2011, Mike dedicated his life to being an evangelist. His warm and friendly personality drew people to him, making him a pillar of support and encouragement for many. He spent twelve years as a deacon at Providence General Baptist Church, and later moved his membership to McGrew Memorial General Baptist Church, where he inspired those around him with his unwavering faith and commitment to living a Christian life every day.
Before embracing his calling in ministry, Mike served his country with distinction. He retired as an E-8 Master Sergeant after proudly serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his nation and its values did not end with his military service; he continued to support fellow veterans as a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mike's passions extended beyond the spiritual and military realms. In his younger years, he was known for his love of motorsports, where he participated in driving Outlaw Figure 8 cars and served as a crew chief for Rick Jeffery. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel, as well as being a Shriner, reflecting his commitment to serving others both locally and through charitable efforts.
Besides his wife, Rita, he leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Dennis Knight (Michelle) of Bee Spring and Kevin Knight (Katie) of Savannah, GA; beloved grandsons, Shawn Knight (Samantha), Thomas Knight (Tiffany) and Austin Knight; great grandchildren, Zoey, Larry, Coraline, Addline, Aleigha and Rylan, and his sisters, Julie DeVore and Linda Alvey.
The interment will be in McGrew Church Cemetery with graveside military honors by the Nesbit Alexander Memorial Post #6937 VFW.
Memorial contributions can be made to: Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
