Lona Frances Stewart Lindsey

November 25, 1940 — December 28, 2024

Lona Frances Stewart Lindsey, age 84 of Sweeden, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. She was born on November 25, 1940, to the late Laymon and Marie Stewart.

The Edmonson County native was a housewife and a member of Pleasant Union United Baptist Church. Lona also served many years as a cook for the Edmonson County Schools and later at the Joy Wells Nursing Home.

Lona got under conviction at a tent revival at Oakland, where Bro. Jessie Gilbert preached her the gospel. She was an 11-year-old girl when she attended a revival at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church, and she got saved. Bro. Barney Beckner and Bro. Sammy Vincent were carrying on the meeting, when one Sunday night the Lord came by and gloriously saved her soul. Lona joined Midway United Missionary Baptist Church as a young girl. In 1989, she joined Pleasant Union after the Lord came by and saved her son, Kevin.

Lona was married to the late Bro. Elzie G. Lindsey, Jr. on March 2, 1957 by Rev. Lawrence Vincent. To the marriage they had two children, Regina Lynn Webb of Sweeden and Kevin Lee Lindsey of Sweeden, and were blessed with one granddaughter, Autumn Brooke Dennison of Sweeden. Lona was devoted to and became a caregiver to her husband until his passing in 2007. Years later, she also devoted her life to being a caregiver to her son, Kevin, until his passing in 2022. Lona’s favorite moments were spending time and especially cooking for her family.

She leaves to honor her loving memory— her daughter, Regina Webb (George) of Sweeden; her granddaughter, Autumn Dennison (Derrick) of Sweeden and her sister, Maedean Hennion of Brownsville. Besides her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Gerald Stewart and Becky Meredith.

The interment will be in Pleasant Union Church Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made to:  Pleasant Union Cemetery Fund, c/o Jimmie Duvall.
