Leon Whittle

Leon Whittle, age 90 of Brownsville, peacefully departed this life at his home with his family by his side on Friday, August 9, 2024. The Edmonson County native was born on September 30, 1933 to the late Liman and Liddie Ray Whittle. He was married to his devoted wife and help mate of almost seventy years, Merthel Whittle, until her passing on July 22, 2023.

Leon was a dedicated member, deacon and mentor of Beaver Dam Chapel United Baptist Church, where he led the singing for many years. Leon continued his families’ heritage by being a lifetime farmer. Through his beliefs and work ethic, he taught a lot of young people how to work and have a good outlook on life. He had many talents with singing and music, that he loved. He was an excellent example of getting the most out of everyday life, always wearing a smile, and was a true friend and neighbor to all that knew him. His influence and teachings still live on today. Of all the roles he played, he was most proud of being a beloved husband, father and grandad. 

He leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Grant and Stephanie Whittle and Gregory and Kelly Whittle, all of Brownsville; grandchildren, Kaitlin Sisk and husband Brandon, Trent Whittle and Chloe Whittle, and great-granddaughter, Molly Sisk. Besides his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Flora Cooke and Doris Skaggs.
