Kenneth Meredith, age 86 of Bonnieville, KY, was surrounded by his family at the University of Louisville Hospital when he peacefully departed this life on Thursday, October 31, 2024. The Edmonson County native was born on January 3, 1938 to the late Loyd and Ruth Stice Meredith. He was married to his loving and devoted wife, Magdalene “Maggie” Meredith, until they were parted by her passing on May 11, 2005. In his later years, he married Hazel Heath Meredith, who survives.
Kenneth enjoyed a fulfilling career as a conservation officer for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, where he served with honor and commitment. Beyond his professional achievements, he found immense joy in farming, hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to connect with nature and share experiences with family and friends. He was a proud member of the Washington Meredith #355 F&AM Masonic Lodge, and a lifetime member of the League of Kentucky Sportsmen. After having grandchildren that utilized Norton Children’s Hospital, Kenneth was particularly passionate about the WHAS Crusade for Children, and contributing to the well-being of children that were in need.
Kenneth was a member of Pleasant Union United Baptist Church. Many will fondly remember the moment he stood to proclaim being saved as a young man at Chalybeate United Baptist Church, a testament to his strong beliefs and values. Those who knew Kenneth well will remember him as an honest man who upheld integrity in all facets of his life. He instilled these same values in his children and grandchildren, teaching them by example the importance of being reputable, honest individuals and considerate neighbors.
Besides his wife, Hazel, he leaves to honor his memory— his sons, Rocky Barth (Frances) of Louisville, Martin Meredith of Brownsville, Mark Meredith (Anna) of Bonnieville and Michael Meredith (Marsha) of Brownsville; his cherished grandchildren, Kristen Smith, Erica Kessinger (Daniel), Wade Meredith (Katie), Luke Meredith, Levi Meredith, Heath Barth (Jennifer) and Brittany Shields (Scott); great-grandchildren, Bentley and Blakely Kessinger; a son-in-law, Colby Smith; step children, Shirley Hatfield (Jerry), Bill Heath (Rita), Tommy Heath (Tijuana) and Denesa Sullivan; his siblings, Jeanette Kerr (David), JoAnn Vincent and Ray Meredith, along with several nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his only daughter, Regina Smith.
Interment will be in Pleasant Union Church Cemetery.
