Joy Joanne Tucker, age 87 of Brownsville, departed this life on Friday, August 23, 2024 at her residence. She was born October 5, 1936 in Traverse City, Michigan to the late Kenneth Pierre and Marqurite Darwin Thornton. She was married to Dan Strate, who also preceded her in death.
Joy was a seamstress, herbalist, a gifted pianist, and a member of Cedar Springs Community Church. She would often visit with the residents at Edmonson Health Care, play the piano and sing with them. Joy had a heart of gold, and also loved to volunteer at The Buddy House in Bowling Green.
She leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Tammy Joy Ferrell (Jeffrey) of Brownsville, formerly of Grand Rapids, MI; brother, Ray Thornton of Indiana; her best friend, Barbara Spillman; nephews and niece, Todd Riley, Kenneth Thornton and Natalie Arnold, and a dear cousin, Reanne Hyatt (Michael). Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her children, Scott and Heather Marie Tucker, and siblings, Jan Thornton, Kay Connell and Jay Thornton.
Joy requested for her body to be bequeathed to the University of Louisville Health Sciences Center with interment in New Liberty Cemetery.
