Jewell Duvall Ashley
March 6, 1913 - February 6, 2010
Of Sweeden, KY and recent resident of the Episcopal Church Home, Louisville, KY, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, died Saturday, February 6, one month before her 97th birthday. She was the wife of the late Ivan William Ashley, her husband of 50 years, daughter of the late Artie Onis Alexander and Tommy D. Duvall, granddaughter of the late Lucy Jane Lindsey and the Rev. Charles A. Alexander, and the late Nancy Jane Hamil and Senate Duvall.
She was predeceased by three daughters, Glenda, Ilene and Dr. Jo Ann Ashley, and is survived by five daughters and one son; Loretta and husband Clinton Helton of Silver Spring, MD, Leondal V. and wife Elaine Ashley of Norfolk, VA, Jane and husband Jim Wiest of Louisville, KY, Emogene and husband Jim Coblin of Naples, FL, Edith and husband Bruce Shinbach of Louisville, KY and Hilda and husband Mike Wright of Warrenton, VA; by 11 grandchildren: Jana, Jonathan, Lori, Cheryl, Ashlee, Jill, James, Michael, Tiffany, Stacey and Jason; by twelve great grandchildren: Anna, Sophie, Gabriel, Elizabeth, Noah, Naim, Aidan, Mycah, Nathaniel, Rell, Zoe, and Samuel; by one sister, Cora Duvall Ashley, and one brother, the Rev. Cova E. Duvall.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Patton Funeral Home, Brownsville , KY., 6:00pm Ct to 8:00pm CT, Saturday, February 13 and 12:00 Noon CT to 1:30 pm CT, Sunday, February 14, followed by a memorial service in the Chapel at 2:00pm CT. Burial will take place at the Alexander Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Alexander Cemetery Fund, Victor Alexander, 394 Lock Rd. Brownsville, KY 42210.
Jewell was a faithful member and beloved children's Sunday School teacher of the Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
