Jane Crump Arterburn of Park City, Kentucky, died on Thursday, September 4, 2008, at the age of 89. She was owner and vice-president of Square Deal Lumber Company. She was born August 3, 1919 in Glasgow Junction, Kentucky, now known as Park City. She was the daughter of Samuel and Ethel Hatcher Crump. She graduated from Glasgow Junction High School, attended the Bowling Green Business University and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a major in English. In anticipation of joining the family business, she also attended the Ahrens School in Louisville. In 1942 she married Haskel Earl Arterburn andfollowing his service as a fighter pilot in World War II they joined her father in the family retail lumber and hardware business, founded in 1891 by her grandfather. She worked for many years as the bookkeeper and remained an active management participant throughout her life. Mrs. Arterburn was a member of the Park City United Methodist Church and the Park City United Methodist Women. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years, most recently the Friendship Class.Beyond her local church service, Mrs. Arterburn held leadership positions at the state and national levels of the United Methodist Church. She was a delegate to three General Conferences and a director of the General Board of Global Ministries, the national mission agency of the United Methodist Church. She was president of the Louisville Conference United Methodist Women and an officer of the Women's Division, the national policy making body forUnited Methodist Women. In 1999 Lindsey Wilson College awarded her an honorary doctorate in recognition of her decades of leadership in the United Methodist Church. Mrs. Arterburn was an avid reader and a long-time member of the Mammoth Cave National Park Association. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Bucher and husband Bill of Park City; three grandchildren, Laura Murphy and husband Jim of Montpelier, VT; John Bucher and wife Krisiny of Asheville, NC; and Ben Bucher and wife Rhea of Glasgow; two great grandchildren, Luke Murphy and Mali Bucher and step great grandchild, Brynna Adwell. Services will be officiated by Rev. Pat Hoeksema and Rev.
