James Harold Cooke, 88, of Chalybeate, passed away on August 28, 2022 at the Edmonson Center in Brownsville. He was married to his devoted wife of 66 years, Jean Bledsoe Cooke, who survives. He was born on June 24, 1934 to the late Oval Cooke and Lillian Ferguson Cooke.

The Edmonson County native was a retired director of pupil personnel of the Edmonson County School District, where he served for 33 years.  He enjoyed traveling and had many hobbies, which included being a gunsmith, photographer and a woodworker.  He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army 100th Training Division, and a member of Beaver Dam United Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, Jean,  he leaves to honor his memory -- three sons Ron Cooke (Lissa), Gary Cooke, and Greg Cooke (Lesa); six grandchildren, Alisha Thompson (Windsor), Paige Cundiff, Zachary Cooke, Lydia Cooke, Christopher Snyder (Kourtney), Tristan Snyder; five great-grandchildren,  Noah Witty, Aaron Witty, Hunter Cooke, Ivy Snyder, Ravin Snyder; one sister, Betty Shelton and several nephews and nieces.
