James Virgil Bird, age 82 of Fair Oaks, Ca., died peacefully at his home on September 14, 2009 surrounded by family members.
Known to his family and friends as Virgil or Jim, he was born and raised in Brownsville, KY and considered it his hometown the rest of his life.
The life included one led with dignity and honor as he became a proud veteran of two branches of the military. First serving with the Navy on a Destroyer Escort in WWII and later flying in both Korea and Vietnam with the Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Christine Bird; one daughter, Pamela Buck of Seward, Alaska; two sons, James V. Bird, Jr. of Fair Oaks and Keenan Bird of Rocklin, CA; two stepsons, Gene and Larry Booth of Sacramento, CA; one brother, Richard Bird of Greenwood, IN; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Jim was an honest, genuine soul and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Graveside service will be at Fairview Church Cemetery with military honors by Nisbet Alexander Memorial Post # 6937 VFW
