Irene H. Potter

Irene H. Potter, age 81 of Wingfield, was surrounded by her loving family when she was called to her eternal home on Friday, December 6, 2024. The Edmonson County native was born on August 17, 1943 to the late Homer B. “Tom” and Hallie Poteet Hawks. She was married to her husband of fifty-five years, Ralph J. “Bug” Potter, until they were parted by his passing on April 28, 2016.

Irene was a devoted homemaker. She found joy in picking berries, canning and tending to her yard work. However, her greatest love was her family and grandchildren. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent with them, fostering a special bond that will forever be remembered. 

Irene was saved in September of 1955 at Wingfield United Baptist Church, and would often reflect on how the choir was singing “I’ll Fly Away” as the Lord saved her soul. She remained a member of Wingfield, a place that she truly treasured. 

She leaves to honor her memory — her children, Richard Potter (Charla) of Wingfield and Glenda Crowder (David) of Shepherdsville; her grandchildren, Matthew Crowder (Bethany), Cody Deering (Karen), Hannah Cowles (Chance), John Potter and Callie Sue Potter; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Whitley Crowder and Lily and Levi Deering; her brothers, Wayne Hawks (Ethel) and Oneal “Ford” Hawks, along with several nieces, nephews and dear friends that will miss her. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Pauline Hawks, Opal M. Hawks and Albert “Sam” Hawks. 

Interment will be in Wingfield Cemetery.
