Harry Perkins

Harry Lynn "Joe" Perkins, age 95 of Park City, KY, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Barren County Health Care Center, Glasgow.

Born June 24, 1914 in Iuka, KY, he was the son of the late Harry D. and Ada Lynn Perkins.

Mr. Perkins graduated from Fredonia High School. He was the retired President and CEO of Park City State Bank. He was a dairy and tobacco farmer. He founded Perkins Insurance Agency in 1940. He also had owned an appliance store and built several houses in Park City. He was always active in community affairs. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, a charter member of the Park City Lions Club and Park City Fire Department, past member of the Park City Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, served on the Park City Board of Trustees and was chairman for nine years. He donated the land for the city water tower.

Joe was a member of Park City Baptist Church and was ordained a deacon in 1941. He taught Sunday school class for 52 years and donated the land for the present church in 1961.

He followed closely behind his loving wife of 72 years, Roxy, who died on December 22, 2009. Although  being in very poor health for several years, Joe tried to go see "Mama" once or twice a week until her death 12 days prior to his own. He loved her and his family.

Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by an infant daughter Sandra Lou in 1946, his parents, three brothers, David, Keith and John; four sisters, Rebecca, Rebecca Adeline, Ardelle and Bernice

He was a loving father to Janice Perkins Schell (Dr. Robert) of Owensboro, Nancy Perkins Cutliff (Adrian) of Melbourne, FL., Lynnette Perkins (Mike Edgerly) of St. Paul, MN., and Joseph Lynn Perkins (Jan) of Bowling Green.

He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all loved "Grandad" very much: Kirk Cutliff of Louisville, Timothy Love (Helen) of Marietta, GA, Laura Cutliff Harp of Palm Bay, FL, Christopher Love (Michelle) of Owensboro, Adrea Cutliff McDonough  (Paul) of Melbourne, FL, Ashley Cutliff Carrarro (Kevin) of Palm Bay, FL; his great grandchildren include, Michaela Cutliff Morre, Kayla Harp Krause, Allison Love, Kasey Harp, William Love, Jessica Love, Daniel Love, Sydney McDonough, Luke McDonough and Sam Carraro; his sisters, Imogene Dunlap (100) and Patricia Brumback-Twedt.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as a "self-made" man. He enjoyed telling of spending the summers on the farm of his uncle and doing the "work of a man" starting at the age of 10. He said that he has never asked for a job, but that the jobs came to him. He loved helping people. He loved his family, his church and the people of Park City.

Services will be conducted by Bro. Toby Nunn with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Park City.

The Family would like to express their appreciation for the loving and gentle care given by Dr. William Thornbury; Tony Hogan, PA; the staff of Barren County Health Care Center; Bro. Toby Nunn; Doug Isenberg and the staff at Highland Ridge; his devoted care-giver, Janie; his faithful driver, James Decker; Evelyn Bailey and all the ladies of Park City Baptist Church.
