George Bruce Corrie, III, age 78 of Smiths Grove, departed this life on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY. Born on July 27, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Sara Foster Corrie and George Bruce Corrie, Jr., he dedicated his life to the wonders of nature, particularly through his career as a park ranger at Mammoth Cave National Park. He was married to his loving wife and best friend, Theresa Perkins Corrie, who survives.

George’s tenure as a park ranger was not merely a job; it was a true calling that reflected his deep love for the great outdoors and the majestic mystery of caves. Known for his infectious passion for exploring subterranean realms, George was an avid caver whose enthusiasm inspired many to appreciate the miraculous creations found beneath the Earth’s surface. His extensive knowledge and love for the environment made him a respected figure among his peers and a trusted guide for countless visitors who strolled through the park he called home.

Throughout his life, George achieved numerous accolades indicative of his commitment to historical preservation, caving and environmental conservation. During his thirty-eight years of dedicated service to the National Park Service, he also worked seasonally at Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and Florida’s Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.
