Donald Turner

January 28, 1940 — December 8, 2024

Donald Turner, age 84 of Cave City, departed this life on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at NHC HealthCare in Glasgow. The Barren County native was born on January 28, 1940, to the late Cleon and Laura Estes Turner, where he learned the values of hard work and dedication. Donald was married to his best friend and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Zelma Turley Turner, until they were parted by her passing on March 16, 2020.

Donald dedicated thirty years of his life to Houchens Industries, where he thrived as a grocer, building connections within the community through his service and commitment. Upon his retirement, he continued to embrace his passion for agriculture, finding joy in the simple yet fulfilling lifestyle that farming afforded him. Donald was a proud member and deacon of the Little Hope Missionary Baptist Church. His commitment to his church exemplified his values and his dedication to serving others.

Beyond his professional and spiritual endeavors, Donald possessed a deep love for life evident in his hobbies. He found great pleasure in watching westerns, cheering for the University of Kentucky basketball team, and tending to his farm. These interests reflected not only his personality but also his ability to find joy in both the excitement of sports and the tranquility of nature.

He leaves to honor his memory— his grandchildren, Amber Turner of Park City, Stephanie Phillips (Jaime) of Upton, Autumn Merriss (Jared) of Alvaton, Adam Turner (Jessica) of Chalybeate and Tyler Turner (Katrina) of Buckner; nine great-grandchildren, Madison Hillberry, Grant Turner, Rhiley Thomas, Grace Turner, Brayden Phillips, Jaxon Merriss, Josie Merriss, Kayelynn Turner and Lincoln Turner; a niece and nephew, Maria Westcott (Mike) and Steve Turner, and a daughter-in-law, Lori Peden Turner. Besides his parents and beloved wife, he was also preceded in death by his son, Woodford Grant Turner and brother, William Grant “Tubby” Turner.

Interment will be in Cave City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to: Little Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
