Dennis Oran Priddy, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Christian and respected educator, departed this life on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at TriStar Centennial Hospital in Nashville, TN. The Edmonson County native was born on July 24, 1957 to the late Rev. Oran “Preacher” and June Houchins Priddy. He was married to his best friend and devoted wife of forty-three years, Lecia Mayhugh Priddy. Together, they lived their lives with outpouring affection, purpose and service to others.
Lovingly known to many as "Mr. Priddy," he retired from the Edmonson County School District, after fulfilling a career as a teacher and principal of South Edmonson Elementary. His heart and soul went into nurturing the minds and spirits of countless students. He was often seen wrapping an arm of encouragement around children, their families and his colleagues. The impact he made can be summed up in the heartfelt words in Psalms 37, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way."
His loving demeanor extended beyond the walls of the school. He was a mentor to many, not just in education, but also in their spiritual journeys. A faithful member and deacon at Chalybeate United Baptist Church, he served by example and instilled values of love, humility, faith, and dedication. He will also be remembered at church for his time as a Sunday school teacher, as well as his role as Sunday school superintendent.
Beyond the classroom and the church, Dennis had a profound appreciation for the outdoors. He was a member of the Edmonson County Cattleman’s Association, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and farming. His passion extended to exploring consignment stores and estate sales, searching for ‘unique treasures’ that he would proudly share with family and friends. Above all, Dennis cherished spending time with his family—his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren were his greatest joys! They were the foundation of his existence, and he took such pride in all of their accomplishments.
Besides his wife, Lecia, he leaves to honor his memory— his beloved children, Joseph Priddy (Jessica) and Rachel Donnelly (Arthur), all of Smiths Grove; his grandsons, Jack and Ford Priddy and Walker and Holt Donnelly; a sister, Theresa Priddy Giese (Tom); aunts, Nellie Houchins and Mary Alice Vincent (Johnny Pete); brother-in-law, Joey Mayhugh (Allison); nephews, Andrew Harshman and Stuart Mayhugh, along with several cousins, church family and dear friends that will hold his memory forever in their hearts. Besides his parents, Preacher and June, he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Randy Harshman.
Interment will be in Kinser Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to: Kinser Cemetery Fund, c/o Lee Ann Elmore.
