Clyde Harrod

Clyde Ernest Harrod, age 83, of Winter Haven, FL, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Winter Haven, FL. He was a retired supervisor for Armour Meat Packing Co. in Louisville, KY, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of VFW Post 2921, a trustee of Poplar Springs United Baptist Church, a graduate of Western Kentucky University and a history teacher for Kyrock and Brownsville High School. He served during World War II in the Marines from 1943 to 1946 where he was part of the invasions of Pelilu and Okinawa and the occupation forces of China.

He was born July 18, 1925 in Lindseyville to the late Claude Edward Harrod and the late Lucy Alma Booker Harrod.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathern Lucille Harrod of Winter Haven, FL; one son, Bennie Eugene Harrod  and wife Peggy Burwell Harrod of Winter Haven, FL; one sister, Georgia Harrod Neighbors of Bowling Green, KY; one brother, Rayburn Slaughter of Taylorsville, KY; four stepbrothers, Paul Slaughter of Brownsville, KY, James Elmore of Brownsville, KY, Riley Elmore of Louisville, KY, Michael Elmore of Louisville, KY; one stepsister, Alice Elmore Williams; two grandchildren, Ella Harrod Patton of Fayetteville, AR; Michael David Dodson of Media, PA; three great-grandchildren, Elijah James Patton, Dylan Carter Dodson and Jacob Wesley Patton.

Funeral service will be officiated by Bro. Jerry Patton and Bro. Elzie Madison with burial in the Poplar Springs Church Cemetery with gravside military rites.
