Billy Lee Sanders
1942 - 2022
Billy Lee Sanders, age 80, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2022, on the farm where he was born and raised. The Edmonson County native was born on April 24, 1942 to the late Reverend Charlie and Millie Highbaugh Sanders. He was married to Barbara Torralba Sanders, who survives.
Billy was a United States Air Force career veteran, where he retired as Master Sergeant. After retirement, he went on to work for the Civil Service as a logistics plan specialist at Patrick Air Force Base Florida, and at the Edmonson County Corps of Engineers at Nolin Lake. He was a member of Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Washington Meredith Masonic Lodge #355 F&AM.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising a garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory— three children, Reagan Jefferies (Benjamin) of Melbourne, FL, Jennifer Bean (Robert) of Mammoth Cave and Heath Sanders (Ashley) of Melbourne, FL; twelve grandchildren, Christina Patterson, Cailey Bean, Corey Bean, Alyssa Ware (William), Austin Masone, Kyle Sanders, Emily Sanders, Cole Pierce, Hunter Pierce, Zack Pierce, Nick Jefferies and Matt Jefferies; two great-grandchildren, James Patterson and Kendall Ware; three siblings, Betty Childress (Mike) of Munfordville, Cleo Brown (Bill) of Mammoth Cave and Oda Sanders (Rosalee) of Pig and a sister-in-law, Sandra Torralba. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Cora S. Turner, Daphna Sanders, Barbara Watt, Christine Gipson, Delta Sanders, Josie Taylor, Clarence Sanders, Japath Sanders and Duel Sanders.
The family wishes to especially thank his sister-in-law, Sandra Torralba, as well as the staff at Hospice of Southern Kentucky, Fred Newton, Shawn Smith, Amber Clark and Chaplain Todd Tarbett, for helping to admirably care for Billy with such dignity and compassion during his final days.
Interment will be in the Hill Grove Church Cemetery with military graveside honors by Nesbit Alexander Memorial Post #6937 VFW.
