Bernice Tarter Ray, 97 of Brownsville, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 in Bowling Green. She was a homemaker and member of Beaver Dam Chapel United Baptist Church.
The Edmonson County native was born July 7, 1917 to the late Sam Tarter and the late Mirtie Keith Tarter. She was the devoted wife of the late Willard Ray.
She is survived by a son, Lenard Ray and his wife Linda of Brownsville; a daughter, Grace Hogan and her husband Jerry of Brownsville; one son-in-law, Robert Davis of Brownsville, KY; two brothers, Harvey Tarter and Leon Tarter both of Smiths Grove; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Turley and her husband Clayton of Chalybeate, Eugene Ray and his wife, Myra of Smiths Grove, Travis Davis and his wife Rhonda of Chalybeate, Anthony Davis and his wife Teresa of Brownsville, Leanne Richards and her husband Bryan of Brownsville and Jamie Edwards and her husband Jerry of Chalybeate; ten great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Davis; a great-granddaughter, Karli Sha Davis; one brother, Wilbur Tarter and a sister, Allene Compton.
Burial will be in Kinslow Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Patton and Bro. Steve Gipson officiating the services.
