Alvin Childress, 88, of Chalybeate, died Monday January 9, 2012 at 1:58 am, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Alvin was born April 25, 1923 in Edmonson County, Kentucky to Melvin Childress and Lena Wilson Childress. Alvin served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. and the United States Marine Corp. He has been a Mason for fifty years and attended Fairview United Baptist Church. He retired from General Motors and the Bowling Green Technical College as a teacher.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Edna Boggs Childress and two children, Pat Eyl and her husband, Anthony II of Atlanta, Georgia and Jim Childress and his wife, Teresa of Mammoth Cave, Kentucky; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Alvin is also survived by two brothers, Robert A. Childress of Louisville, Kentucky and Wilbur "Red" Childress (Georgia Bell) of Cub Run, Kentucky and two sisters, Leda Childress (Kenneth) of Louisville, Kentucky and Geraldine Wood of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Burial will be in the Union Light Church Cemetery with Bro. Malcolm Doyle and Bro. Jerry Patton officiating.
